Transition overview for Commerce Analytics (B2B) from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4

  • Updated

Google will be deprecating Universal Analytics on July 1, 2023 and 360 Universal Analytics on July 1, 2024.

Until the deprecation occurs, Optimizely recommends that you install both Universal Analytics and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on your site to allow for adequate time for data comparison. Although Google offers a conversation path from Universal Analytics to GA4, Optimizely does not recommend that path. Instain, you should maintain your existing Universal Analytics web property and create a new Google Analytics 4 web property.

You should also maintain your existing Tag Manager container, but you must import a new GA4 default json file into your existing Container to add new GA4-specific tags for B2B Analytics.

You can work with your Implementation Partner to complete this transition. Once your partner has successfully implemented GA4 and Tag Manager, you can go to Step #3 to share the updated information with Optimizely.

Use the following steps to transition from Universal Analytics to GA4:

  1. Update Universal Analytics to GA4.
  2. Set up Google Tag Manager with GA4.
  3. Share updated information with Optimizely for provisioning.

You will need the appropriate json file for Classic CMS or Spire CMS during this process.
