Campaign status and actions (Legacy)

  • Updated

Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) uses distinct statuses to indicate where each campaign is within the deployment process. Be familiar with each status to make executing and checking your campaigns easier.

Status states

  • Draft – Campaign created but not yet set to run.
  • Scheduled – Campaign scheduled to send but has never previously sent. If a one-time campaign is reset after already sending, it will return to Scheduled status.
  • Preparing – Campaign reached its next send time and is in the queue.
  • Running – Campaign currently sending emails to recipients.
  • Ongoing – Campaign scheduled to run again.
    • This status does not apply to one-time campaigns that are rescheduled to run again.
    • This status applies to recurring/continuous campaigns and one-time campaigns sending in recipient time zone and/or performing A/B testing.
  • Completed – Campaign run before and not scheduled to run again.
  • Paused – Campaign paused by a user.

Note: This does not apply to one-time campaigns, which cannot be paused or marked completed while in the Preparing state.

Running

  • Campaigns with the Running status have no available user actions. Messages are going out and cannot be paused or unscheduled.

Ongoing

  • Pause changes the status to Paused. If you do not intend to resume the campaign, you can change the status to Completed.

Completed

  • Restart changes the status to Scheduled.

Paused

  • Restart is available when the schedule is changed to make the campaign run in the future. Clicking the button changes the status to Scheduled.
  • Resume is available when the schedule is not changed. Clicking the button changes the status to Scheduled.

System Actions

ODP automatically changes the status of campaigns that meet the necessary qualifications.

  • Scheduled changes to to Preparing when the campaign reaches the start time and moves to the sending queue.
  • Preparing changes to Running when the campaign reaches the top of the sending queue and begins sending.
  • Running changes to Ongoing if the campaign has more scheduled runs (is recurring/continuous, uses recipient time zone sending, or is A/B testing for one-time campaigns).
  • Running changes to Completed when no scheduled runs are available.
  • Ongoing changes to Preparing when the campaign reaches its next scheduled run time and moves to the sending queue.
