Add bounce rate or exit rate metric to an experiment

Track bounce rate and exit rate in an experiment or campaign.

Bounce rate and exit rate metrics are configured on pageview events. You can add them to new experiments or experiments that are already running.

To add a bounce rate or exit rate metric to a new experiment:


  1. Create a new experiment or select an existing one.

  2. Under Manage Experiment or Manage Campaign, select Metrics.

  3. Select the pageview event you want to use as a metric.

  4. Select Decrease as the winning direction (the goal is typically to decrease bounce and exit rates by making your website more engaging).

  5. Select Bounce Rate or Exit Rate from the dropdown list of measurements.

  6. Click Save to Experiment or Save to Campaign.

  7. Click Save.

When you add bounce or exit rate metrics to a running experiment, they are calculated retroactively, back to the beginning of the experiment.
