You can export all translatable data from Optimizely Product Information Management (PIM) and then reimport the files for properties, assets, categories, and products. Exports allow you to easily work with an external translation provider, and imports allow you to quickly translate large amounts of data.
Export information for translation
You can export properties, property values (dropdown, radio button, or multi-select), categories, assets, and product information for translation. Use the following steps:
- Locate the properties, categories, assets, or products to export for translation.
- Click the Export icon, then select Export for Translation.
- Make the following selections:
-
- Select whether to export the Properties or Property values, if applicable.
- Select the Target Language(s) to which you want to translate the content.
- Select the type of Records to include based on your filters and preferences.
- Select the types of Properties to Include in the export if you are export products.
- Click Export. The export window appears in the lower right corner. Do not close the window before the file is ready for download.
- Click the Download exported file link that appears.
-
Import translated properties, categories, or assets
You can import translated content for properties, categories, or assets.
URL segments for categories must be unique for the translated languages.
- Click Imports. The Imports list page appears. If you need to download the template to help with formatting your data, go to Download Templates > Translations.
- Drag and drop the file onto the Imports page. You can also click Browse or Import, locate your file, and click Open. The page automatically detects the Import Type and asks you in the Notes column to verify the import type selected. If the columns match a previously saved template, the page selects that template under Import Template.
- Verify the Import Type and Import Template chosen.
- Click Import. If you have auto-initiate enabled, the import automatically starts and detects that this is a translations file.
The import validates the file for issues. If there is an issue, it displays a validation error message with a downloadable file. If there are no issues, the translations successfully import for the properties, categories, or assets in the file.
Import translated products
The import process for translated products is largely similar to the standard import process. The key difference is the inclusion of the Language column on the Mapping step. A drop-down list in the Language column lets you select the language for mappings to any multi-language products. When importing files with column headers that include language codes, the field mappings select the language code by default. For instance, if you have column for "Product Title - EN" and "Product Title - ES", the columns auto-map to Product Title with EN and ES selected. If no language code is specified, the Language uses the default language.
- Click Imports. The Imports list page appears. If you need to download the template to help with formatting your data, go to Download Templates > Products.
- Drag and drop the file onto the Imports page. You can also click Browse or Import, locate your file, and click Open. The page automatically detects the Import Type and asks you in the Notes column to verify the import type selected. If the columns match a previously saved template, the page selects that template under Import Template.
- Click Import. The Import Wizard displays.
- Select an option for handling new or existing records:
- Add or update records
- Only add new records
- Only update existing records
- Choose whether to Ignore blank cells. If you ignore blank cells when updating, the import does not overwrite existing data with a null value.
- Click Select Source Fields to map.
- Select File includes name/value pairs if your data has columns for a series of names and values, where many properties may exist within any 'name' column. Select the columns with the names and values. You can then map all unique values within the name columns to properties.
- Select the checkboxes beside columns that you want to import in Available Fields.
- Click Continue. The wizards maps the source fields to the target properties.
- Change or select any Target Properties if needed.
- Select Hide mapped fields if you want to hide fields and focus on the unmapped fields.
- Add a Static Value to import a specific value for all imported records if desired. For example, the vendor or supplier name.
- Select Save this option as an import template if you want to save these field mappings and import options. The wizard automatically uses the file name plus "Template".
- Click Import.
