Assign assets, categories, and related products to products

  • Updated

You can both assign and unassign assets, categories, and related products in Optimizely Product Information Management (PIM) through the Imports page.

Assign assets

Use Assign Assets to import assets to product assignments. The assets must already exist in the PIM.

  1. Click Imports. The Imports list page appears.
  2. Click Import Template and Download the Assign Assets to Products template if you have not already formatted your import file. The file must contain the following columns:
    • Asset Folder – The location of the asset within the PIM's digital asset management folder structure.
    • Asset Name – The name of the asset.
    • Product Number – The product number for the asset. List the product number multiple times if multiple assets are assigned to a single product.
  3. Drag and drop the file onto the Imports page. You can also click Import, locate your file, and click Open. The page automatically detects the Import Type and asks you in the Notes column to verify the import type selected.
  4. Click Import. If you receive any validation errors, resolve them before importing again. You can download the provided file to view error messages that are specific to each row.
  5. View your import progress on the Imports list page. A log of the import also displays on the page when it is complete.

Assign categories

Use Assign Categories to import product to category assignments. The categories must already exist in the PIM for this import to work. If you do not use dynamic categories, this is the recommended way to bulk assign products to categories.

If the PIM is integrated with Customized Commerce, there is an additional column in the template for indicating the Primary Category. Additionally, Customized Commerce requires that all products have at least one category assignment to be considered 100% complete and approved for publishing.

  1. Click Imports. The Imports list page appears.
  2. Click Import Template and Download the Assign Categories to Products template if you have not already formatted your import file. The file must contain the following columns:
    • Category Tree – The category tree that the categories belong to. The tree must already exist and is not created during import.
    • Category 1 – The top level category. The category must already exist and is not created during import. You can create additional category columns as needed for other levels.
    • Product Number – The product number for the category. List the product number multiple times if multiple categories are assigned to a single product.
  3. Drag and drop the file onto the Imports page. You can also click Browse or Import, locate your file, and click Open.
