Event Taxonomy

The Event Taxonomy feature help users organize the events in an event stream allowing for a more efficient and streamlined experience. With Event Taxonomy, you can control which events will be visible in the event selector inside templates. You can also make changes to the configuration of individual events like modifying their names, descriptions, and definitions.

Accessing Events

To organize and modify events in an event stream,

  • Navigate to the left panel, click the Data icon and choose Events.

  • Here, choose the stream that you want to view the events for, using the drop-down. When the stream is chosen, all the events will be displayed with the following details - Display Name, Description, Definition, and Visibility status.

  • To modify individual events, you can click the event and make changes to its configuration, and click OK. Another way to edit an individual event is to click the three dots at corresponding to each event and click Edit.

  • You can use the visibility toggle corresponding to each event to control whether you want to show or hide an event.

  • To modify two or more events at once, you can select the events using the checkboxes on the left of each event and choose the action that you want to perform. The following options are available at the top of the event table - Merge, Show, and Hide.

  • If you want to search for a specific event in the events stream, you can type the name of the event in the search bar at the top.
  • You can use the Visibility drop-down to choose the category of events that you want to view - All Visibility, Visible, or Hidden.

  • To refresh the page, click the Refresh button on the top-left.

Custom Events

You can now create custom events directly from the Events section or the app navigation bar. These custom events are basically cohorts of events that come under one event stream. When you create the custom event, you can simply select events by name using the new Filtered Event block.

Creating a custom event

To create a custom event,

  1. Navigate to the Data section in the navigation panel and click Events and click + New Custom Event. You can also navigate to + New in the Data section and select Custom Event.
  2. You can select the event stream that you want to create a custom event in beforehand using the Show events in drop-down. This will open the cohort editor.
  3. Give your event a name and add a description, if desired.
  4. In the Filtered Event block, select the events that you want to include in the cohort and click Apply.
  5. Run the cohort and click Save. Now, your custom event will be created and will be visible under the Custom Events tab in the Events section.

Editing a custom event

To edit an existing custom event,

  1. Navigate to the Data section in the navigation panel and click Events.
  2. In the Custom Events tab, click the three dots corresponding to the event you want to edit and click Edit. This will open the cohort editor.
  3. Make the necessary edits and click Save.

Duplicating a custom event

To duplicate an existing custom event,

  1. Navigate to the Data section in the navigation panel and click Events.
  2. In the Custom Events tab, click the three dots corresponding to the event you want to duplicate and click Duplicate.
  3. Give the duplicate a name and description and click OK.

Deleting a custom event

To delete an existing custom event,

  1. Navigate to the Data section in the navigation panel and click Events.
  2. In the Custom Events tab, click the three dots corresponding to the event you want to delete and click Delete.
  3. In the deletion confirmation pop-up, click Yes.
