Get started with currencies

  • Updated

To create a currency, a user must be an Optimizely Configured Commerce administrator.

Configured Commerce can display and use multiple currencies. Based on a user's currency selection (which may be set on the Admin Console or selected on the website), the site will display all currency amounts in the selected currency, including the product price. When a specific price in the stated currency is not available in the client's ERP, the pricing engine will calculate the price using a conversion table.

Support of multi-currency will affect many website features beyond pricing. Other considerations include: shipping, taxes, payments, and promotions. Multi-currency values can also be stored and calculated for later use, which would affect saved orders, wishlists, requisitions, and budgeting.

Considerations for currencies

Using multiple currencies on your website has a number of implications that must be considered before implementing this feature:

  • Only currencies that can be stored in a two decimal place format (including currencies that have zero decimal places, such as the Japanese Yen) are supported. Any currencies that contain more than two decimal places are not supported.
  • The Cybersource Tax Calculator is offered as the standard tax calculator for correctly calculating and applying international taxes. You may use another Tax Calculator that supports multiple currencies, however doing so may require custom development.
  • Spreedly offers Optimizely clients access to over 200 payment gateways and a variety of payment methods. Clients interested in implementing a new payment gateway may select any payment gateway or payment method Spreedly supports.

In order for multi-currency conversions to be used, the Website Setting Pricing Service must be set to Generic.
