Memory manager

The memory manager gives you full control over what Optimizely Opal knows about you. Use it to view, edit, and delete stored memories, import memories, and manage whether Opal captures and references memory in your conversations in Opal Chat.

To access memory manager, go to Context > Memory.

View your memories

Memory manager displays all memories Opal has stored for you in your current instance. Open memory manager to see the full list.

Edit a memory

Edit a memory to correct or update information Opal has stored about you.

  1. Find the memory you want to edit in memory manager.
  2. Click More > Edit.

  3. Update the Memory text.
  4. Click Confirm.

Delete a memory

Delete a memory to remove information you no longer want Opal to reference.

  1. Find the memory you want to delete in memory manager.
  2. Click More > Delete.

  3. Confirm the deletion.

Clear all memories

Clearing memories permanently deletes all stored memories from your current instance. This action cannot be undone.
  1. Click More > Clear all memory.

  2. Confirm the clear all.

Import memories

You can manually import memories to add context to Opal using the memory manager.

Import a single memory

To import a single memory, complete the following:

  1. Click Add Memory.
  2. Select Add Memory.

  3. Enter the memory.
  4. Click Confirm.

Import multiple memories

You can import multiple memories into Opal at once. This is helpful if you are switching between Opal instances. First, you export your memories and then paste them in.

In the instance you want to copy your memories from, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Add memory.
  2. Select Import memory.
  3. Click Copy for the Copy example prompt.

  4. Paste the prompt in Opal Chat.
  5. Press enter or click Send.
  6. Copy the memories.

In the instance you want to import the memories, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Add memory.
  2. Select Import memory.
  3. Paste the memories into the Paste memory block text field.
  4. Click Confirm.

Turn memory capture on or off

When memory capture is on, Opal automatically stores key information from your conversations. Turning it off stops Opal from capturing new memories. Existing memories remain stored, and Opal continues to reference them in responses.

  1. Click More > Manage memory settings.

  2. Toggle Capture memories from chat off.

  3. Click Confirm.

Turn memory in chat on or off

Turning memory in chat off stops Opal from capturing new memories and stops Opal from referencing existing memories in responses. To resume using memory, return to memory manager and opt back in.

  1. Click More > Manage memory settings.

  2. Toggle Reference memories in chat off.

  3. Click Confirm.
