Search Crawl not Working; Error 'Access Denied'

When you configure Ektron CMS400.NET to work with Microsoft Search Server, you identify a Windows user with access to the search indexes. If you later change the password for that user, you must update several screens with the new password. Until youcomplete all steps, the crawl does not run, and the event log shows an "Access Denied" error.

  The search stops working, and the event log shows an "Access Denied" error.You changed the password for the Windows user with access to the search indexes.

To update the password in all required places, follow these steps on the server that hosts Microsoft Search Server.

                                                               

 

1. a.Go to Start > All Programs > Ektron CMS400v85 > Utilities > Search Config.
b.On the Site Registration tab > Search Server Credentials area, enter the new password, then re-register the site. 

 
 

2. Open IIS manager > Application Pools. Stop the SharePoint Central Administration and SharePoint Web Services Root pools.

 
 

3. a. On the Application Pools screen, select SharePoint Central Administration. 
b. On the right of the screen, click Advanced Settings.
c. Under Process Model, click the Identity field then the ellipsis button (...).
d. On the Application Pool Identity screen, click Custom Account then the Set button.
e. On the Set Credentials dialog, enter the username and new password for the Windows user with access to the search indexes. 

 
4. Repeat Step 3 for the SharePoint Web Services Root pool.
5. Restart the the SharePoint Central Administration and SharePoint Web Services Root pools.
 

6. a. Within IIS, navigate to the Services screen.
b. Find the SharePoint 2010 Timer service, and stop it.
c. Then, right click the service, choose Properties, click the Log On tab and change the password.
d. Restart the service.

 
7. Repeat Step 6 for the SharePoint Server Search 24 service
 

8.a. Open the SharePoint Central Administration panel.
b. Navigate to the Search Service Application: Search Administration screen.
c. Click the default content access account and update the password on the screen.

 
9.  Perform an IIS Reset.
10. Run a Full Crawl of your CMS400.Net Web site.
