Segmentation

Overview

The Segmentation section that you will find inside multiple templates in Analytics allows users to segment reports by cohorts or attributes. You can use pre-saved definitions of cohorts or attributes for segmentation, or define them inline as part of the report. Let us look at how you can do this inside Analytics.

Let us consider a Retention and Engagement template for our example.

Segmentation using Cohorts

To add a cohort as a segment,

  1. Create/open any exploration template of your choice from the left navigation panel.
  2. Navigate to the Segment by Cohort section and click +.
  3. A new segment is added - here, you can either choose a cohort from the drop-down or you can add a new cohort inline by clicking on New Cohort.
  4. Run the exploration and click Save.

Segmentation using Attributes

To add an attribute as a segment,

  1. Create/open any exploration template of your choice from the left navigation panel.
  2. Navigate to the Grouped by Property section and click +.
  3. Choose an attribute from the drop-down and click Save.

Segment-Attribute

When you perform segmentation, you will notice that the section only displays join path compatible suggestions in the drop-down. The incompatible options are displayed in grey with a warning symbol.
