Analytics allows users to create parameters inside all explorations and model artifacts. This page will walk you through creating parameters inside these sections and using them.
To demonstrate the procedure, let us consider creating parameters within a cohort.
The procedure to create parameters is the same for all artifacts and explorations.
Creating a parameter within model artifacts
To create parameters within a cohort, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to Cohorts on the left navigation panel.
- Choose a cohort template - for the example, let us choose the Behavioural template.
- Select a dataset for the Cohort Of field using the drop-down. Here, we choose the Users dataset.
- Now, let us start configuring the Behavioural Cohort block - let's say Users who performed a particular set of product interactions: Play Content, Pause Content, Rate Content, and Share Content.
- Once this is done, we can start configuring Parameters. To create a parameter, click the pull-out drawer on the left of the window and click +. The Creating Parameter window opens up and you can configure your parameter. For the example, let us create a parameter based on language. We give the parameter a name, choose the column lang from the drop-down, select the parameter type - Multi Select, and set the default value to All.
- Click Create Parameter.
- Now, go back to the cohort definition and click the 'Filter' icon. Select a value from the drop-down - here, lang, and then choose the parameter that you created from the Parameters tab.
- Click Apply and Run Cohort.
- You will be able to see the 'Parameters' icon in the Visualization window using which you can filter your results based on the parameter that was configured.
- Give your cohort a name and description (optional) and click Apply. Save the cohort.

Using parameters inside Explorations
Now that we have created a parameter inside a cohort, let us look at how this can be used inside an exploration - here, a funnel.
- Navigate to Explorations on the left navigation panel and choose Funnel.
- Configure your funnel and add the stages.
- In the Performed by section, click Add Cohort and choose the cohort that you configured parameters for. Here, we choose Events by Users.
- Run the exploration. You will be able to see the 'Parameters' icon in the Visualization window using which you can filter your results based on the parameter that was configured.

- You can also add new paramaters within explorations using the pull-out drawer and use them inside the Filters section.
