The Agent Directory is a central hub where you can browse, view, and install agents for Optimizely Opal. Each agent helps with a specific task, such as reviewing content, analyzing data, or generating marketing copy. The directory provides descriptions, capabilities, and configuration details so you can find agents that fit your organization's needs.
The Agent Directory is where Opal Administrators and Agent Builders install and manage agents. Opal users discover and launch a curated subset of these agents in the Agent Library.
Access the Agent Directory
- Log in to Optimizely.
- Select your org.
-
Click Opal.
-
Click Agents > Agent Directory.
Browse agents
In the Agent Directory, you can browse agents by their use cases or use the search bar to find a specific agent by name or description. The following sections explore the Agent Directory's icons.
New agents
Agents recently released by Optimizely to the Agent Directory display a New badge.
Installed agents
Agents you or someone in your organization have already installed in your Opal instance display a green check mark badge.
New version available
Agents installed from the Agent Directory update automatically in your Opal instance when Optimizely publishes a new version. Auto-update is enabled by default for every installed agent.
For agents where auto-update is turned off, a green refresh badge displays when a new version is available. To update manually, select the agent and click Update Agent.
Add an agent to Opal
Prerequisites
- You must have admin permissions for your Opal instance.
- Your organization must have generative AI enabled.
- The agent must meet any hosting or configuration requirements listed on its details page.
Install an agent
To install an agent from the Agent Directory to your Opal instance, select an agent to view its description and installation instructions.
See the Agents in the Agent Directory documentation for a list of available agents.
After installing an agent, it is added to the Your Agents tab and you can edit it like a specialized agent. See the following documentation:
- Manage specialized agents
- Specialized agent logs
- Specialized agent versions
- Test a specialized agent
Auto-update
Auto-update keeps your installed directory agents current without requiring manual action. When Optimizely publishes a directory agent update, the update propagates automatically to every Opal instance with auto-update enabled.
Custom agents you created are not affected. Auto-update uses installation records, so only agents explicitly installed from the Agent Directory receive updates, regardless of agent name.
Turn off auto-update
Auto-update is enabled by default for every agent installed from the Agent Directory. Users with the Manage Agents permission can turn off auto-update for any installed agent:
- Select the agent in the Agent Directory.
-
Toggle Auto-update off.
Edit a directory agent
If you edit and save a directory agent with auto-update enabled, Opal displays a warning. The warning offers to turn off auto-update so your edits are not overwritten by a future update.
If you use Opti ID, administrators can turn off generative AI in the Opti ID Admin Center. See Turn generative AI off across Optimizely applications.
