Use the skills builder to create reliable skills automatically in Optimizely Opal Chat. The skills builder is a design-time AI assistant in Optimizely Opal. It helps you build a skill. A skill shapes how Opal behaves in a given task.
When to use the skills builder
Use the skills builder when you create or update an organization or personal skill. The skills builder works best at design time, before a skill becomes active, to prevent the most common reliability issues:
- Vague or incomplete skills.
- Missing tool dependencies.
- Incorrect activation triggers.
Use the skills builder
Create a skill from Opal Chat using the Create Skill action card Opal generates with the skill details. Review and edit the fields on the action card, then click Save to create your skill without leaving the conversation.
The create_or_edit_instruction tool must be Active and Enabled in Chat to use the skill builder.
To configure these settings, see Manage tools.
To generate an action card to create a skill, you can prompt Opal to do so or click Create skills.
Example prompts:
- Help me create a skill.
- Save this as a skill.
- I want to create a skill.
