Metrics in Netspring are computed properties that can be used in analyses. For example, a metric named Revenue might aggregate the Sale Price column from a Transactions dataset to calculate total sales. Metrics are not tied to a specific dataset.
- On the NetSpring home page, click + New > Metric.
- You can either select from the templates - Simple Aggregation, And/Or, Filter, and Formula shown in the options or create Custom metrics. This choice only helps with starting quickly, you can always change it later without losing any work.
- In the resulting Block Editor view, you will see the Block Editor interface. Using blocks, define the computation for your metric.
- As you work on the definition of the Metric, click on Run Metric to sample the computed values. The resulting table will show values of the metric, potentially accompanied by any dimensions.
- Click on the top-left to specify a name and description for the Metric.
- Finally, click Save.
- The new Metric can now be used as a Catalog entity anywhere that the Catalog is accesible, e.g. inside exploration templates, block editor, etc.
Warning: Conversion and Numeric metrics are supported by the Stats Engine. If you configure a custom metric that deviates significantly from these types, it may not be compatible with the Stats Engine, potentially leading to inaccurate results. Please ensure your metric aligns with supported formats for reliable analysis.
