Build a Path analysis

To create a Path analysis that shows user journeys starting from the website's home page, complete the following:

  1. Click + > Paths.
  2. Name your path analysis, add a description (optional), and choose the folder you want to place it in.
  3. Choose the Users dataset from the drop-down list in the measure field.

  4. Configure the Paths module.
    1. Choose whether you want to track users' paths Starting from, Ending at or Centered on a point.

      1. Choose the events you want to perform path analysis for. Choose Home Page under Product Events as the focal event. If you want to use a Timestamp instead of an Event, you can click Timestamp in this section.

      2. Choose Event Occurence. There are three options that you can choose from (for the first time in the time range, for the first time ever, or for the last time). Set it to for the first time in the time range.

      3. Select All Product Events in the Show paths including field. Each of these fields let you to configure filters separately.

When you choose events for a path analysis, it is ideal to set the From event to a specific event rather than an entire event stream so that it is visible in the path analysis making it easier to trace what happened before and after the event.

  1. Choose the label. For this example, select event_type.

  2. Set the Bounds to 0 steps before and 5 steps after within 1 day.

  3. Set the number of unique values you want to see in the analysis.

  4. Set the time grain to 30 days and click Run.
  5. Click Save.

You can set multiple filters inside a path analysis. Whenever you create filters, you can reference parameters inside them to fine-tune your exploration. See Parameters overview for more information.
