Get started with ODP

  • Updated

Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) harmonizes customer data, which leads to a deeper understanding of your customers' behaviors in real time. ODP collects, stores, and makes available the most relevant data for your business by adhering to a few core concepts:

  • Know everything about a customer: who they are and what they have done.
  • Identify and resolve who the customer is across all systems.
  • Make the platform flexible and adaptable.
  • Have great integrations that enable more impactful and informed decisions.
  • Make data stored in ODP available through the API.

Get started

After you set up the ODP application for your company, see the developer documentation to implement the ODP JavaScript tag, import your historical data, and sync your ongoing data.

You can complete these steps in any order.

Manage account settings

You can configure and manage your company's ODP settings on the Settings page. This is where you manage your account's time zone, alerts for errors in processes you have running in ODP, compliance requests, and more. For information, see the user documentation about ODP account settings.

To manage ODP user accounts and their permissions, see the Opti ID user documentation.

View homepage

When you use ODP for the first time, the homepage displays a Getting Started with Optimizely Data Platform guide to help you configure ODP, build audiences, and activate campaigns.

After you configure ODP, you can see an overview of your current integrations, monthly active users, audiences, and activations in the Summary section. The Recommended Integrations section displays the total number of third-party integrations and suggests additional configurable integrations to enhance data synchronization. You can learn more about ODP by using the news and educational resources available in Optimizely Academy under the News & Resources section. Additionally, the New in ODP banner tells you the latest ODP releases and updates.

Configure additional integrations

You can optionally configure additional integrations to bring more of your ecommerce and customer data into ODP. For information about this, refer to the ODP integration articles. You can also import this data using some of the developer tools (Web SDK, REST API, React Native SDK).

Build audiences

When you have customer data loaded and regularly syncing in ODP, you can build audiences using the Customers > Audiences page. An audience is a subset of your customers described by who they are or what they have done.

Audiences help you understand your customer's behaviors and let you react accordingly. You can use the Activations section to run targeted campaigns on your ODP audiences or integrate your own campaign management system.

For information about creating audiences, see:

  • Create standard audiences – For customer data greater than 28 days old. Accessible in ODP reports and activations (campaigns).
  • Build real-time audiences in ODP – For customer events within the last 28 days. You can sync these real-time audiences with Optimizely Experimentation and Optimizely Content Management System (CMS).

Analyze customer data using reports

ODP has both pre-built and custom reports, letting you gain even more insights into customer behavior. Go to the Reports page to familiarize yourself with these reports. For more information, see the user documentation on ODP reports.

Get notified about ODP releases

If you want to stay up to date on ODP's new features, follow the current year's ODP release notes.

This ensures that you receive an email notification any time new release notes are published.
