Creating and Managing Applications

  • Updated

An application is a logical grouping of objects for a particular business use case. It is simply an organizational convenience to manage different use cases across teams or initiatives. Applications do not share any state among them. You could have multiple applications within an organization.

Creating Applications

To create a new application within Analytics,

  1. Navigate to the top-left and click the Application button and then click + beside the Organization name to create a new application within that Organization.
  2. In the Creating new application modal that appears, enter the application details. Provide a Name and Description for the new application and select a Color of your choice.
  3. Click Save and your new application will be created.
Create app

After successful creation, the new application will appear under your Organization. You can verify this by clicking the Application button on the left navigation panel. Whenever a new application is created, it will be shared with the All Users group by default and all users would have FULL_ACCESS to the app. This means that the Root folder of the app will also be shared with the group with the same FULL_ACCESS permission.

When the app is created, it will be shared with all users. The All users group gets write access to the app, which results in them getting cascaded write ability on the app.

Editing Applications

You can edit the properties of an existing application. To modify basic details like name and description,

  1. Click the application switcher at the top-left corner of the dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the application you want to edit, click the three dots next to it and click Edit. Change whatever necessary and click Save.
Edit app

To edit connections in an application,

  1. Click the folder icon (Catalog) on the left panel of the dashboard.
  2. Select the connection, change connection type and enter corresponding details if required, and click Save.

Sharing Applications

When an application is shared with any one of the following permissions - Can view, Can edit, Full access, or No access with a particular user/group, the root folder of the app will also be shared with the same permission to the user/group. For example, if an application is shared with the All Users group with FULL_ACCESS permission, then the root folder of the app will also be shared with the group with the same FULL_ACCESS permission.

You can share an application with other users or groups by clicking the Share option next to the app.
