Add sources

  • Updated

You can add RSS feeds for content item extraction on the Sources page in Optimizely Content Recommendations. When you add a source manually, Content Recommendations scrapes your webpages to ingest and process your content. You can also add a source through an API integration. Upon addition, it displays in the source list.

To add a source, complete the following:

  1. Go to Content > Sources.
  2. Click Add RSS Feed
  3. Enter the following information:
    1. URL – Enter the URL of the RSS feed, for example, http://www.optimizely.com/feed
    2. Title – Provide a name for your source.
    3. Approval – Select to enable automatic approval of content from your RSS feed.

User interaction with unapproved content is tracked. However, unapproved content is not served in recommendations.
    4. Output Display – Select the type of output you want to extract. The following three options are available:
      • Make the content fully available – The entire content is displayed by Content Recommendations in the output, including text, images, and formatting where applicable.
      • Only include the abstract – A summarized version or abstract of the content is displayed, providing a concise overview without the full details.
      • Only include a link to the original content – Output containing a hyperlink directing users to the original source is displayed, without displaying any of the actual content.
    5. Override Existing Content – Select to override existing content with potentially new data from the new source, if the content is re-ingested at a later date.
  4. Click Active to activate the source for content ingestion.

  5. Click Save

Now you can view your source in the source list. You can click Paused to pause content extraction at any time. When you pause a source, Content Recommendations no longer scrapes your webpages for your content.

Edit or bin a source

You can edit your source by clicking Edit, which redirects you to the Source > Edit page. You can bin your source by clicking Bin

Binned sources are not processed by Content Recommendations.

When you bin a source, Content Recommendations adds it to the list of binned sources. Open the Bin tab to Edit your source and Restore it.

Sort, search, and view sources

Sort your list of sources in ascending or descending order, or by the date on which you created it in Content Recommendations. Additionally, you can search for a source by entering your source name in the Search bar and clicking Go.

You can view the content that was scraped by Optimizely Content Recommendations by clicking View Content, which redirects you to the Content page.
