Manage events

In Optimizely Web Experimentation and Optimizely Personalization, you can create and manage Click, Custom, and Pageview events on the Implementation > Events page if you do not have the metrics module enabled, or on the Metrics > Events page if you do have the metrics module enabled. An event always lives on a page, so they are organized according to the pages that they are attached to.

The metrics module is in beta. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Optimizely Support for information.

Filter events

On the Implementation > Events (without the metrics module) or Metrics > Events (with the metrics module) page, expand the Status drop-down list and select Active (default) or Archived. Active events are included in the snippet. Archived events are not included in the snippet.

Without the metrics module

With the metrics module

Edit an event

  1. Go to Implementation > Events (without the metrics module) or Metrics > Events (with the metrics module).
  2. Click the event name or click More (...) > Settings for the event you want to edit.
  3. Edit the event as desired and click Save Page.

Archive an event

Archiving events has the same effect as deleting them. Archived events are no longer tracked and are removed from the snippet.

Pageview events are attached to a page and created automatically, so when you archive a pageview event, you actually archive the page. If you archive a page, existing campaigns that use that page are not affected, but you cannot add the page to any new campaigns.

  1. Go to Implementation > Events (without the metrics module) or Metrics > Events (with the metrics module).
  2. Click More (...) > Archive for the event you want to archive. A warning displays.
  3. Click Archive.

Unarchive an event

  1. Go to Implementation > Events (without the metrics module) or Metrics > Events (with the metrics module).
  2. Expand the Status drop-down list and select Archived.
  3. Click More (...) > Unarchive for the event you want to unarchive.

To unarchive events within an archived page, you must unarchive the page. Optimizely displays an alert to confirm that you want to unarchive the event and page simultaneously.
