Braze remote MCP connector

Braze remote MCP connector tools are in beta.

The Braze remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector in Optimizely Opal brings Braze customer engagement data into Opal. Use Opal Chat, agents, and workflows to explore Canvas and campaign analytics, segments, and custom attributes, and to generate content such as email templates, content blocks, and media library assets.

The Braze remote MCP connector is managed by Braze. For details, see About the Braze MCP server in the Braze documentation for available tools and data. Braze does not expose tools that return user-level personally identifiable information (PII).

First, an Opal administrator must connect the Braze Remote MCP to Opal. After adding the MCP server, individual Opal users and agent builders log in to Braze to access their information from Opal. Administrators only need to add the Braze Remote MCP once.

Connect the Braze Remote MCP to Opal

The first person to connect a third-party service to Opal should be an administrator of that service. Administrator access installs the complete set of tools, so Opal adds every available tool. If a non-administrator connects the service first, Opal installs only the tools that account can access.

The Braze connector tools mirror your Braze dashboard user permissions, including both read and write tools. If your Braze permissions change, your access in Opal changes on your next request, and Opal revokes access entirely if your Braze dashboard user is deactivated.

Add Braze connection

As an Opal administrator, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to Connectors in Opal.
  2. (Optional) Enter Braze in the search bar to filter the connectors list.

  3. Click Connect on the Braze tile.

  4. Select your Braze cluster region, US or EU.

  5. Log in to your Braze account.

  6. Grant the requested permissions.

A confirmation message displays, and you can close the pop-up window.

Configure Opal tools

After adding the Braze connection, Opal prompts you to select which tools to enable and optionally customize their display names.

As an Opal administrator, complete the following steps:

  1. Deselect any tools you do not want to add to Opal.
  2. (Optional) Update any tool's display name.

  3. Click Finish.

The Braze tile displays Connect on the Connectors tab for Opal users to authenticate with their personal accounts.

Authenticate with Braze

Each Opal user and agent builder logs in to Braze individually to access their Braze data from Opal. User-level authentication ensures you access only the data your Braze dashboard user account is authorized to view.

Before you begin, confirm that an Opal administrator has connected the Braze remote MCP to Opal. Until an administrator connects it, the Braze tile displays Contact admin instead of Connect, and you cannot select it.

To authenticate, complete the following steps in Opal:

  1. Go to Connectors.
  2. (Optional) Enter Braze in the search bar to filter the connectors list.
  3. Click Connect on the Braze tile.
  4. Log in to Braze.

After you log in to Braze, the Braze connector tools are available in Opal Chat, agents, and workflows.

Braze connector tools

The Braze connector tools are available after an administrator adds the Braze Remote MCP to Opal and you authenticate with Braze. The available tools depend on which tools your administrator enabled. Update tools

To rename, add, or remove tools, an Opal administrator must delete the Braze tools registry and re-add it. Complete the following steps:

  1. Follow the steps in Delete the tool registry.
  2. Add Braze connection.
  3. Configure Opal tools.
