Integrate Amplitude Audience Sync

The terms audiences and segments are interchangeable. Optimizely has updated all segments to audiences in the Audiences page and is currently working on updating the UI in other pages. See Understand audiences to get information on audiences. 

Import your Amplitude behavioral cohorts into Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) as ODP real-time audiences. You can then use your ODP real-time audiences in other Optimizely products, including Optimizely Web Experimentation, Optimizely Feature Experimentation, and Optimizely Content Management System (CMS).

Prerequisites

Enable the integration in ODP

  1. Go to Data Setup > App Directory in ODP.
  2. Select the Amplitude Audience Sync app.
  3. Click Install App.
  4. Go to SettingsGet Token and copy the result for later use.

Configure the integration in Amplitude

After enabling the integration in ODP, you must configure the integration in Amplitude.

Add the Optimizely destination in Amplitude

  1. Go to Data > Connections > Catalog > Destinations in Amplitude.
  2. Select Optimizely.
  3. Complete the following fields:
    • Name – Enter your desired name for the integration. For example, Optimizely Real-Time Audiences.
    • Bearer Token – Paste the token that you copied in step 4 of the Enable the integration in ODP section.
    • User ID Mapping – Select the same user identifier that you are using in Real-Time Audiences for Optimizely Experimentation or CMS Visitor Groups.
    • Region – Select your region.
  4. Click Save.

Sync Amplitude behavioral cohorts to ODP

Repeat the following steps for each Amplitude behavioral cohort that you want to sync to ODP.

  1. Go to Cohorts & Audiences > Cohorts in Amplitude.
  2. Select the behavioral cohort and click Sync.
  3. Select Optimizely on the Select Destination window.
  4. Ensure Select an API target to sync to is set to the name you defined in step 3 of the Add the Optimizely destination in Amplitude section.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select your desired sync cadence and click Sync. This syncs the behavioral cohort to ODP as a real-time audience.

Behavioral cohorts that you sync from Amplitude to ODP display in ODP with the prefix "Amplitude." For example, if the behavioral cohort name in Amplitude is New users in the last 30 days, it displays on the ODP Customers > Audiences page as Amplitude - New users in the last 30 days.

Use your Amplitude behavioral cohorts in Optimizely Experimentation

You must configure the Real-Time Audiences in Optimizely Web Experimentation or Optimizely Feature Experimentation integration before you can access your Amplitude behavioral cohorts in Optimizely Experimentation.
  1. Go to the Audiences page in Optimizely Experimentation.
  2. Edit an audience or click Create New Audience.
  3. Expand Real-Time Segments, then drag and drop the Custom Segments condition into the Audience Conditions section.
  4. Expand the Custom Segments drop-down list and select the audience you connected from Amplitude.
  5. Click Save Audience.

Now you can add this audience to an experiment.
