Sync customer email addresses or phone numbers from Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) to TikTok for more relevant ad targeting in TikTok.
Prerequisites
- TikTok account
- ODP account
Update API app consent setting
You only need to complete the instructions in this section if your app consent setting for the API channel is set to Opted Out. This setting must be set to Opted In for this app to successfully send data.
- Go to Settings > App Consent Settings in ODP.
- Set the Api app's Default Consent to Opted In.
- Click Update Consent in the confirmation prompt.
Configure the integration
- Go to the App Directory in ODP.
- Select the TikTok Audience Sync app.
- Click Install App.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Click Authorize. ODP redirects you to the TikTok for Business login page. Follow the prompts to authorize your TikTok business account, which should redirect you back to ODP when complete.
- Enter your TikTok Ad Account ID and click Verify.
Sync data from ODP to TikTok
- Go to Activation > Engage > Create New Campaign and click one of the following:
- One-Time – Syncs your segments and data once.
- Behavioral – Sets up an automated, recurring sync.
- Click Create From Scratch. If you do not have recipes, you are automatically directed to the campaign editor.
- Enter a name for your activation representing the data you are syncing to TikTok.
- Select your desired segment and click Apply, or click Create New Segment, select your desired segment conditions, and click Save. This is where you control which customers you want to send to TikTok.
- Expand Enrollment Rules and adjust as desired.
- Expand Touchpoints.
- Click to edit Touchpoint 1 and select TikTok Audience Sync.
- Expand Targeting and select your desired target identifier. ODP sends this identifier (hashed) to TikTok to match customer profiles.
- Complete the following settings in the Configure section:
-
Segment Name – Enter a name for the segment. When you start syncing data, TikTok creates a segment using the name you specified here.
The segment name you enter is used to create an audience in TikTok or update an existing one. If you want to map multiple ODP syncs to the same TikTok audience, you must use the same segment name.
-
Retention – Enter the number of days you want the TikTok audience to retain the segment from ODP. The minimum is 1, and the maximum is 365.
The expiration date is the specified number of retention days from the date the audience was created. Any operations to the audience cannot reset the expiration date.
If you do not enter a value for this field, the expiration date is 365 days from the last time the audience was applied to an active ad group or modified. Applying the audience to an active ad group or modifying the audience resets the expiration date. To learn about the actions that reset the expiration date, see TikTok's Audience Expiration Policy article.
-
Segment Action – Select one of the following options.
- Replace – Replaces all audience members with segment members in the last sync.
- Append – Adds any audience members that were not included in the original sync that created the audience.
-
Remove – Removes the audience members in the segment from the TikTok audience.
-
Segment Name – Enter a name for the segment. When you start syncing data, TikTok creates a segment using the name you specified here.
- Click Save and then click your activation name in the breadcrumb trail.

- For a recurring sync (behavioral campaign), complete the following settings, then click Apply:
- Recurring or Continuous – Select Recurring.

- Repeats – Set to Daily.
- Repeat Every – Set to 1 day.
- Timing – Enter the time you want to send the data to TikTok.
