Building an Event Segmentation Analysis

  • Updated

An Event Segmentation analysis is built by measuring one or more events against segments of actors and attributes for a specific time frame.

As an example, let's create an event segmentation analysis to determine the top categories in which users have played content the most number of times. To create this example, we use the Flix app and the demo datasets within it. You can also see these examples inside the app.

  1. Access the Explorations page on the left navigation panel.
  2. Select the Event Segmentation template.
  3. On the definition page, choose the preferred measure using the selector - here, we choose Count of Events.
  4. Under the Events section, click + Add Event to select one or more events to analyze. Here, we choose Play Content from the Product Events dataset. Let us also add a filter here to eliminate the Other category from the analysis.
  5. The next step is Segmentation. Here, to group our results by category ID attribute, we click + under Grouped by and choose category_id as the value.
  6. Let us also set the number of top segments to 100.
  7. Set the time interval - here, we set it to 30 days.
  8. On the Visualization pane, click Run Exploration to run the analysis and view the aggregated count of each event segmented by categories.
  9. Give a descriptive name to the analysis and save it.

Create an Event Seg analysis

You can set multiple filters inside an event segmentation analysis. Whenever you create filters, you can reference parameters inside them to fine-tune your exploration. Learn more about parameters.
