Integrate Google Audience Sync

Automatically sync an Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) standard segment into the Google Ads platform. Customers who have an email associated with them are eligible for this integration. Currently, this integration lets you target your segments on Search, YouTube, and Gmail paid advertising.

Use of this app is subject to Optimizely's Terms of Service Agreement.

Prerequisites

  • Google Ads account
  • Accept Google's Customer Data Terms. In Google Ads, go to Goals > Conversions > Settings > Customer Data Terms > Accept.

Enable the integration

  1. Go to Data Setup > App Directory.
  2. Select the Google Audience Sync app.
  3. Click Install App.
  4. Go to the Settings tab, click Sign in with Google, and follow the prompts to authorize your Google account.
  5. Paste your Google Ad account ID in the Ad Account ID field. Ensure you enter a specific ad account ID, as this configuration does not work with an ad manager account ID.
  6. Click Verify.

Sync ODP standard segments to Google

  1. Go to Customers > Segments.
  2. Select the desired segment.
  3. Toggle Google to On in the Next Scheduled 3rd-Party Segment Sync section.

Locate audience in Google Ads

  1. Log in to your connected Google Ads account.
  2. Go to Tools and Settings > Shared Library > Audience manager. The Your Data Segments section displays your ODP segments.

Troubleshoot

Your ODP Google Audience Sync app might become unauthorized for a couple of reasons:

  • The last person to authorize the app was removed from your Google Ads Account.
  • You have not accepted Google's Customer Data Terms. In Google Ads, go to Goals > Conversions > Settings > Customer Data Terms > Accept.

To reauthorize the app in ODP, after you ensure you are an admin in the Google Ads account and you have accepted Google's Customer Data Terms, complete steps 4 through 6 from the Enable the integration section.

Your audiences will begin to sync on their next daily sync time. If you want to sync an audience immediately:

  1. Go to Customers > Segments in ODP.
  2. Select the desired segment.
  3. Toggle Google to Off, then back On in the Next Scheduled 3rd-Party Segment Sync section.

Turn on alert notifications

You can sign yourself up for ODP alerts so that you will receive a notification when an error occurs in your ODP account like your Google Audience Sync app becoming unauthorized:

  1. Go to Settings > Alerts in ODP.
  2. Enter your email address (or comma-separated list of email addresses).
  3. Click Save List.
