Disallow search engine optimization

A strong SEO (Search Engine Optimization) result is a fundamental component to a B2C commerce strategy. However, unlike B2C, some B2B commerce strategies do not benefit from site SEO capabilities. Below are examples of when not to allow indexing by a search engine crawler on a Configured Commerce site. In these cases, turning off search indexing on some site pages or turning it off on the entire site prevents unwanted exposure to secured information.

In most cases, deselecting all or partially restricting SEO from a site is closely connected to the client/customer relationship. Payment terms, such as purchase orders, contractual pricing, and complex supply needs require a deeper relationship than simpler B2C direct purchasing. These various and complex B2B purchasing issues greatly affect a client's B2B website strategies, and may dictate the level of commitment to SEO.

When to deactivate search indexing on a website

Products are contractually priced or pricing is shared selectively

When items are contractually priced per customer, or when a client wants to keep pricing protected behind an account login, having product-related pages deselected from search indexing prevents those sites from being crawled. It also prevents those sites from being added to the website's indexed sitemap that is sent directly to the search engine.

Deselecting products from search engine indexing

  1. Access SEO Settings in the Admin Console > Websites > click Edit for the desired website > click the SEO finger tab.
  2. Click the Hide all products from the search engines toggle.

  3. Click Save.

The website is behind account authorization

Many sites require an account to be set up with billing information or price contracts before a customer can access any part of the website. In this instance, SEO should be disabled completely in the Admin Console.

Deselecting all pages to prevent SEO on website

  1. Access SEO Settings in the Admin Console > Websites > click Edit for the desired website > click the SEO finger tab.
  2. Click Deselect All to make all CMS pages unseen to search engines.

  3. Click Save.
