Layouts allow you to create a template for a frequently used page type.
To view Layouts in Content Admin, click Edit on in the upper-right corner of the page. The Layouts section will appear on the left side of the page on the Pages tab under the page tree.
- Click + next to the Layout section heading under the page tree.
- Enter a unique Display Name. This is how your layout will be listed in the Layout section.
- Use the Allowed for Page Type dropdown to choose the page type for which your layout will be available.
- Click Save.
Your new layout will appear under in Layout section on the Pages tab.
Configure a Layout
You can configure layouts as you would a typical page in Spire CMS. Any widgets added to the layout cannot be edited on a page using the layout.
To make portions of a layout editable, use the Layout Zone widget:
- When editing a layout, click + where you would like to add a Layout Zone widget.
- Select Layout Zone under Basic Elements on the Add Widget modal.
- Click Save.
- Click + on the newly created Layout Zone widget.
- Use the Add Widget modal to add the desired widget(s), which will remain editable on any page using the layout.
Apply a layout on a new page
You can apply a layout when creating a new page.
- Create a new page.
- Select a page type with an associated layout on the Page Type dropdown.
- Select the desired Layout.
- Click Continue.
- Enter the Basic and Advanced page details as needed.
- Click Save.
Edit a layout page type
You can edit the allowed page type for an existing layout.
- Click More Options next to the name of the layout you would like to edit.
- Click Edit Layout.
- Use the Allowed for Page Type dropdown to change the allowed page.
- Click Save.
Delete a layout
You can delete a layout from your list.
- Click More Options next to the name of the Layout you would like to delete.
- Click Delete Layout.
- Click DELETE on the modal.
You cannot delete a Layout that is in use on a page.
