Optimizely Data Platform (ODP) shows you the status of each campaign after ODP sends it. Learn the campaign statuses to help manage and run your campaigns efficiently.
Statuses
- Draft – Campaign is created but not yet set to run.
- Scheduled – Campaign is scheduled to be sent but has not been sent previously. Resetting a one-time campaign returns it to the Scheduled status.
- Preparing – Campaign has reached its next send time and is in the queue.
- Running – Campaign is currently being sent to to recipients.

Ongoing – Campaign is scheduled to run again.
- This status does not apply to one-time campaigns that are rescheduled to run again.
- This status applies to recurring, continuous, and one-time campaigns sent in the recipient's time zone and to campaigns conducting A/B testing.
- Completed – Campaign has finished and is not scheduled to run again.
- Paused – Campaign is paused by a user.
Locate a campaign's status
You can see the campaign status following its name and target segment.
Filter by campaign status
Filter campaigns by their dashboard status. The Active filter includes Preparing, Running, and Ongoing statuses.
User actions by status
Each campaign status influences the actions available to the user.
Draft
- Go Live changes the status to Scheduled.
Scheduled
- You can Unschedule a campaign if it has not been previously sent by ODP. This changes the status to Draft.
- You can Pause a running campaign, which changes its status to Paused. If you do not want to resume the campaign, change the status to Completed.
Preparing
- You can Unschedule a campaign if it has not been sent previously by ODP. This changes the status to Draft.
You cannot unschedule one-time campaigns in the Preparing state.
- You can Pause a running campaign, which changes its status to Paused. If you do not want to resume the campaign, change the status to Completed.
You cannot pause or mark one-time campaigns completed in the Preparing state.
Running
- There are no available user actions for campaigns with Running status. You cannot pause or unschedule the messages.
Ongoing
- Pause changes the status to Paused. If you do not want to resume the campaign, change the status to Completed.
Completed
- Restart changes the status to Scheduled.
Paused
- You can Restart a campaign by letting the campaign run in the future. This changes the status to Scheduled.
- You can Resume a campaign if the schedule remains the same. This changes the status to Scheduled.
System Actions
ODP automatically changes the status of campaigns that meet the necessary qualifications.
- Scheduled changes to Preparing when the campaign reaches the start time and moves to the sending queue.
- Preparing changes to Running when the campaign reaches the top of the sending queue and starts getting sent.
- Running changes to Ongoing if the campaign has more scheduled runs (if it is recurring or continuous, uses recipient time zone sending, or is A/B testing for one-time campaigns).
- Running changes to Completed when no scheduled runs are available.
- Ongoing changes to Preparing when the campaign reaches its next scheduled run time and moves to the sending queue.
