The Reports tab in the Resources module summarizes estimated versus actual hours across your team's completed steps. Use it to evaluate how accurately work was scoped and identify patterns in over- or under-estimation.
For an overview of the Resources module and its prerequisites, see Resource management.
Understand the report
The report is organized by person. Each row displays a team member's aggregated totals across all completed steps in the current view. Expand the names to see their individual steps.
- People – Team member name, job title, weekly capacity, and time zone
- Due Date – The due date set on the step
- Completed Date – The date the step was marked complete
- Estimated Hours – The total estimated hours set on the step
- Actual Hours – The hours logged by the assignee on the step
- Under/Over Estimated – The difference between actual and estimated hours. Positive values mean the step took longer than estimated, while negative values mean it took less time. A value of 0 means actual hours matched the estimate exactly
Log actual hours
Any user with task-level permissions can log time on a step, including non-admin users, even if they are not the assignee. Complete the following to log time:
- Open a task in CMP and locate the step.
- Click Set estimate.
- Enter the Estimated Total Hours in the Set Estimate modal and click Save.
The report always credits logged time to the step's assignee, regardless of who logged it.
