The Insight Dashboard in Optimizely Content Recommendations provides data and performance metrics to evaluate how your website visitors consume your content. With these insights, you can refine your content strategy and deliver more personalized recommendations to your customers, increasing engagement and driving conversion rates.
View data in the dashboard
You can view the following data in the Insight Dashboard:
- Filter – See Use dashboard filters.
- Summary – View the summary of the performance metrics and click the metric names to go to any data table.
- Line chart – View the line chart of the Interactions and the Uniques made during a specific time period. You can view hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly values. Hovering over the lines shows you the exact value of the Interactions, Uniques, and Interactions per Engaged User at that time.

Configure filters – You can select between the following filters to manipulate the data in the line chart and the tables:
- All Interactions – Filter the entire insight dashboard by selecting a filter from the drop-down list. The data inside the data tables also changes when you set a filter to reflect the filter's values.
- Show Interactions Made Between...(time period) – Choose a time period for which you want to see the insights for different data. Expand the drop-down list and choose between the specific time periods or set a custom time period from the date picker. Click Apply.

Compare – Click to compare the data to a previous period in which the data was gathered. You can view the results in the graph and the tables.
- The dotted line in the graph displays the Interactions in Previous Period and Uniques in Previous Period. You can follow it to see whether there were more or fewer interactions with your content.
- The downward and upward arrows in the data tables, like a 4.10% decrease in Interactions or a 2.15% increase in Interactions per Unit (IPU) for the topic Artificial Intelligence in Topics in Content, indicate the difference in values.
- Share This View – Click to share the filtered view with other members of your organization. See Configure Content Recommendations settings.
Performance metrics
The Insight dashboard tables display data using the following performance metrics:
- Volume – The number of content items mentioning the topic, imported before the current day, and matching any applied filter.
- Interactions – The number of interactions a topic has with its associated content item.
- % Interactions – The percentage of interactions out of total interactions during a specific time period.
- Uniques – The number of new visitors interacting with your content item.
- % Uniques – The percentage of unique visitors out of total unique visitors visiting your site during a specific time period.

Interactions per Uniques (IPU) – The number of times a new visitor interacted with your content item.
Data tables
The Insight dashboard displays the following data in tables:
- Topics in Content – The list of topics that had the highest number of interactions with their associated content items.
- Content – The list of content items that visitors interacted with the most.
- Sections – The list of sections (see Sections in Overview of Content Recommendations to learn more about sections) with the highest number of interactions in their content items.
- Sources – The list of content sources with the highest number of interactions (see Sources in Overview of Content Recommendations to learn more about sources).

Referrers – The list of sites linked to your content items. There are three types of referrers:
- Referring Campaigns – The list of marketing campaigns that visitors clicked to land on your website.
- Referring Mediums – The list of marketing channels, like Social or PPC, that visitors used to land on your website.
- Referring Sources – The list of sources where the content is linked, like Facebook or a newsletter, where visitors clicked to land on your website.
- Profiles – Displays the list of individuals (or unique visitors) with the highest number of interactions with your content items.
Topics in Content
This table displays the number of interactions individual topics had with their associated content items, in ascending order. You can evaluate the data using performance metrics, such as IPU. Topic ranking can help you assess whether the content's performance aligns with your expectations.
- Go to Insight Dashboard > Topic Performance.

Scroll down to Topics in Content.
- Click the topic name (for example, Artificial Intelligence) to view the topic details.

Expand the drop-down list to select between Top Topics, Shared Selections, or My Saved Selections to view the top-ranked topics in each category.

Click Add to Topic Selection (save icon) to add the topic to an existing selection. You can choose multiple selections in the confirmation message. Click Save when you are done or click Manage Topic Selections to create a new selection.

Click More (...) to add the topic to or remove it from the Insight dashboard filter.

Click +View More to see the total list of topics. You can also download up to 250 topics by clicking Download CSV (download icon).
Content
This table displays the list of content items with the most interactions, in ascending order. You can evaluate the data using different performance metrics. This list can help you improve your content strategy by identifying the content items with the highest number of visitor interactions.
- Go to Insight Dashboard > Topic Performance.

Scroll down to Content.
- Click a content item name (for example, Orchestrate) to view or edit content details.
- Click a section name in the content item row (for example, Not insights or glossary) to view or edit sections.

Click More (...) to add the topic to or remove it from the Insight dashboard filter.
- Click +View More to see the total list of content items. You can also download up to 250 content items by clicking Download CSV (download icon).
Sections
This table displays the list of sections with content items that had the highest interactions, in ascending order. This data can help you create improved sections based on the number of volume, interactions, or uniques.

Go to Insight Dashboard > Topic Performance and scroll down to Sections.
- Click a section name to view or edit the section.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 from Content to view more sections and download them.
Sources
This table displays the list of sources with content items that had the highest number of interactions. For example, the content items listed in Content are all sourced from www.optimizely.com. This can help you determine if you need to add additional sources to drive user engagement. You can add the source to the filter and also download the list of sources by clicking Download CSV.
Referrers
This table displays the list of all sites linked to your content items. For example, one of your content items has linkedin.com as a linked site, with a total of 1,610 interactions. You can select a referrer and add it to the filter. Filtering can help you identify the content items that engaged visitors from each referrer. You can also download the list of referrers by clicking Download CSV.
Referring Campaigns
This table displays the list of marketing campaigns that visitors clicked to land on your website. Clicks are tracked by adding value to your marketing links, such as Google's utm_campaign. Add referring campaigns to the filter to determine your content's performance through campaigning.
Referring Mediums
This table displays the list of marketing channels, like Social or PPC, that visitors used to land on your website. Clicks are tracked by adding values to marketing links, such as Google's utm_medium. Add the referring mediums to the filter to determine your content's performance through channels.
Referring Sources
This table displays the list of sources where the content is linked, like Facebook or a newsletter, where visitors clicked to land on your website. Clicks are tracked by adding values to marketing links, such as Google's utm_source. Add the referring sources to the filter to determine your content's performance through the linked source.
Profiles
This table displays the list of unique visitor profiles with the highest number of interactions, in ascending order. Each row also displays the Idio number and the Idio Visitor ID. You can click on the profile IDs to visit the profiles and find related data (like identifiers, conversions, or their interest profile). Click +View More to view the total number of profiles.
