Configure custom preference center domain

  • Updated

To personalize your branding further, you can configure a custom domain in Optimizely Data Platform (ODP).

Prerequisites

  • You must have the option to update your domain's DNS records.
  • You must have access to one of the following emails to enable secure links:
    • administrator@yoursite.com
    • hostmaster@yoursite.com
    • postmaster@yoursite.com
    • webmaster@yoursite.com
    • admin@yoursite.com

Create a custom domain

To create a custom domain for your preference center, complete the following:

  1. Go to Settings > Email Settings > Preference Centers.
  2. Click Edit on an existing preference center or click New Preference Center to create one. For information, see Design your preference center
  3. Expand Domain Name under Customize your preference center URL. Click Create Custom Domain from the Domain & Subdomain drop-down list.
  4. Enter your domain name. This should be a domain you own, like preferences.acme.com.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Click Verify Custom Domain to verify the custom domain.

Update CNAME records

You must update the CNAME records of your custom domain to redirect traffic to the correct URL. Use the values provided for TypeHostname, and Value to make this update in your DNS provider. Contact Optimizely Support if you cannot find any of the field values.

Send a domain verification email

Amazon Web Services (AWS) for ODP sends an email to all listed addresses with secure links to ensure ownership of the custom domain. Click Send Emails to send the emails. The recipients must click one of the links to confirm ownership before publishing the preference center.

Validate and verify records

Go to Domains & IPs and click Verify All DNS Records to check if your custom domain was authenticated by the system. The authentication can take up to 15 seconds. After verification, the status for the associated records becomes green.

Although DNS or SSL changes typically take less than an hour to propagate, some can take up to 24 hours. If the propagation does not occur, the authentication process fails. If you are not successful but are confident that the configuration is correct, retry the authentication later.
